Interview with a Bar Crawl Leader — What It’s REALLY Like Running Ios’ Biggest Night Out

19 March 2026

Ever wondered what it’s like to lead 100–200 people through the streets of Ios at night? We sat down with one of LIABP’s veteran bar crawl leaders to get the inside scoop.

This is one of the most fun, chaotic, rewarding jobs on the island — here’s what happens from their perspective.

1. Introductions: Meet the Leader

Name: “Fletcher”
Role: Head Bar Crawl Leader
Years in Ios: 3
Known for: Massive energy, iconic intros, crowd control wizard

“Leading the bar crawl is the best job on the island. You’re basically hosting a global party every night.”

2. How a Leader Prepares for a Night

A typical shift starts around 8pm.

Preparation includes:

  • Meeting with venue teams

  • Assigning leader roles

  • Planning the crowd flow

  • Checking staff positions

  • Getting updates from the LIABP office

  • Reviewing attendance numbers

When Nio Fusion doors open at 9pm, leaders are already dialled in.

3. What Makes the LIABP Crowd Special

“The mix of nationalities is unreal — Irish, Aussies, Swedes, Norwegians, Dutch, Americans. Everyone comes to Ios ready to meet people.”

This diversity is what makes every night unique.

4. Best Part of the Job

“Watching strangers become friends. By Stop 3, you see entire groups forming — people who will travel together for weeks after.”

5. Funniest Moments

From:

  • Someone accidentally starting a karaoke battle

  • Random dance circles in alleys

  • Swedish Midsummer flags appearing mid-crawl

  • Australians yelling “shoey!” at 11pm

  • Norwegians teaching Irish students chants

Every night has a story.

6. The Most Challenging Part

“Crowd control on huge nights — but because we’ve done this for years, the system is smooth. The key is energy, structure, and communication.”

7. Advice for First-Timers

  • Show up at 9–10pm

  • Wear trainers

  • Drink water

  • Stay with the group

  • Be social

  • Trust the leaders

Final Word from the Leader

“This isn’t just a bar crawl — it’s the highlight of people’s holidays. If you come to Ios, you have to do it.”
